New York City, often referred to as the city that never sleeps, can be described as crowded, cool, and diverse. Spending time in New York City is to truly experience an urban adventure. New York City requires stamina, as it is set at the forefront of food, fashion, and the arts. Don’t be afraid to wander, generally speaking it’s a very safe city, but without some advice and tips prior to traveling to New York City, one might feel lost and confused.
One of the most important things to know about before traveling in New York City is how to get around. Your options for how to get around the city are endless; Taxi, Bus, Bike, Subway, and of course by foot. Often, the best way to get around is by foot. The subway system is convenient, open 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The subway is an inexpensive base fare per ride and efficient way to get around with your dream girl
The bus is a flat $2.75 per ride. Manhattans streets are flooded with yellow taxicabs and all you have to do is tell the driver where you want to go. If the number on a taxicab’s top light is lit, it indicates the cab is available. However, if the number on a taxicab’s top light is not lit, it indicates that you are out of luck.
When trying to save money in New York City, it may be wise to avoid cabs. While cabs do get you where you need/want to be, they are not always best for saving money. The subway is a more cheap and even faster way to travel around the city. Go to street vendors to eat some cheap meals and follow the young crowd.
Where you see the college students eating will probably be the more cheap, money efficient places to eat. It is suggested that if you want to go out to eat, go out for lunch and not dinner. Many restaurants offer the same dishes for lunch as they do dinner, but at a fraction of the cost. As far as attractions go, look for reduced admission.
The Museum of Modern
Art is free every Friday between 4 and 8p.m. Visit museums on pay what you wish nights-many museums offer free admission on certain days and times of the week. Always take advantage of the freebies in New York City. For example, The Downtown Boathouse offers free public kayaking programs.
Consider watching free movies in central park during the summer months. The public theater offers a number of free shows in central park including the now famous Shakespeare in the park. Along with this, watch free movies in Bryant Park. Just like Central Park, Bryant Park offers free movie viewings at dusk through out summer months. Some other things to ponder on doing for free; Walk the Brooklyn Bridge and enjoy an absolutely amazing view, Take a jog/walk through

It may be wise to know that Fifth avenue divides Manhattan into the east and west sides. Building numbers increase as you go farther east or west. When getting directions, always ask for the cross streets. It’ll be easier to find your destination and for locals to guide you. Many pharmacies, delis and convenience stores are open 24 hours, but that is just the basics. Also, hair salons, bowling alleys and many other places are open around the clock.
From Time Square, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Empire State building, the Rockefeller Center, Bronx and much more, there are virtually endless ways to occupy your time in the city that never sleeps.
